Design Technology
Intent
The Design and Technology (DT) curriculum at Palm Bay aims to inspire pupils to become innovative and critical thinkers. Our objective is to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and understanding needed to engage confidently with the designed and made world, both in school and beyond through;
- Creativity and Innovation
- Critical Thinking
- Technical Knowledge
- Practical Skills
Implementation
We map our DT curriculum to ensure progression of DT knowledge and skills for all of our children, through working towards projects that incorporate 'real-world' skills.
The strands that are revisited each year are;
- Textiles - sewing (links to our art curriculum)
- Food preparation and nutrition
- Understanding materials (links to our science curriculum)
- systems and electrical systems (KS2)
- structures
- mechanisms
Impact
Children build upon their previous learning in the subject and are able to apply this knowledge through these strands each year. We encourage all learners to be creative, critical thinkers, through high-quality questioning.
